G.I.Joe The POP-EXPOSE

G.I. Joe APC vs. The Warthog Story by Mitchell Smith!

Two of my favorite G.I.Joe vehicles are the 1983 APC and the 1988 Warthog, both were Joe transports that could go on land and sea. The toys both really floated and Although the APC could carry 28 figures as apposed to the Warthogs 9, the Warthog had a few more features and a lot more fire power. Not to say I don’t love the APC, but the Warthog had grenade launchers on the side and 2 large missiles on top. The APC was awesome for it’s time and honestly still is today. The mold was reused for the 1989 Night Scrambler and for the 1992 APC/CUDA.

The figures had a plastic strap that went across their laps of the figures so this was great for storing and carrying your Joes. It only had one gun on the top, so it’s main purpose was to transport a large number of Joes into battle. The Warthog was probably the upgrade to the APC and it came with an awesome SGT. Slaughter figure with a removable hat. The mold was also used for the 2002 Night Rhino and 2006 Renegade’s Warthog. This 1988 version featured 3 main seats and room for 6 seated in the rear. All the Joes were hidden away until the 3 main ports were opened and the back two hatches were raised. The 2 large Missiles on top really made this vehicle stand out and this was an awesome vehicle to create adventures with. Although the APC was somewhat plan the overall appearance of it makes a collector want to have one.

The Warthog’s appearance was total badass. When looking at it from the front there was a line of teeth across the front and wrapped around each side, the headlights make it look like a crazed warthog ready to run you over, and the two missiles would make Cobra and his minions run for the hills. Both these vehicles were featured in the cartoon and I’m thinking the APC may have been in more episodes, but I’m not sure about that. Either way they are both still really cool Joe vehicles and both are staples in any collectors lineup.
